Max Scherzer was seen moving around the pitcher’s mound when he noticed Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider approaching him, likely to take him out of Game 4 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS).
In response, Scherzer emphatically exclaimed, “No way!” Following a brief but intense conversation, Schneider exited the mound with the 41-year-old pitcher still in the game.
While some casual Blue Jays fans may view Scherzer’s actions as disrespectful or erratic, his teammates and die-hard baseball enthusiasts recognize this as typical behavior from the pitcher known as Mad Max.
“I’ve been looking forward to that all year, for Max to yell at me on the mound,” Schneider shared during his post-game press conference. “I believe at that moment, there are statistics, projections, strategies, and individuals. So, I trusted the individuals.”
Schneider further explained that he trusted Scherzer to deliver crucial pitches during the game following the mound visit. Despite some heated exchanges between them, Schneider approached Scherzer in the clubhouse to inquire about pitching in the sixth inning.
Reflecting on the incident, Schneider mentioned, “When a guy is in the heat of the moment, performing well, I trust him to keep going.”
