Drake has achieved a historic feat with his three new albums, namely, “Iceman,” “Habibti,” and “Maid of Honour,” dominating the top three positions on the Billboard 200 albums chart simultaneously. This marks the first instance where a single artist has occupied the top three spots on the chart in a single week.
“Iceman,” the highly awaited album that Drake teased with an ice structure in downtown Toronto and live-streamed episodes, secured the No. 1 position, followed by “Habibti” at No. 2 and “Maid of Honour” at No. 3.
This accomplishment has elevated “Iceman” to become Drake’s 15th album to reach No. 1 on the chart, tying him with Taylor Swift for the most solo artist No. 1 albums.
All three albums were unveiled on May 15, with “Habibti” and “Maid of Honour” being pleasant surprises.
Each album presents a distinctive sound. “Iceman” predominantly focuses on rap, delving into the aftermath of Drake’s feud with Kendrick Lamar and Universal Music Group. The track “Make Them Cry” opens the album with Drake addressing the feud head-on.
On the other hand, “Habibti” takes a softer approach, centering on themes of love and exploring the complexities of relationships through songs like “Slap the City” and “Classic.”
“Maid of Honour” stands out as the most experimental record among the three, as Drake blends elements of Chicago juke in “Outside Tweaking” and 80s synths in “Goose and the Juice” with his signature style. The album features catchy samples, like Peggy Gou’s “(It Goes Like) Nanana” in “Cheetah Print” and DJ Casper’s “Cha Cha Slide.”
This achievement underscores Drake’s continued influence and creativity in the music industry.
