“Texas Country Artist Charley Crockett Cancels Canada Tour”

Published:

Texas country music artist Charley Crockett has called off his tour in Canada, which included a show in Saskatoon, after being denied entry into the country over a previous drug-related conviction. The 41-year-old singer-songwriter expressed his disappointment on social media, acknowledging the repercussions of his past actions.

Crockett, who was slated to perform in various Canadian cities before returning to the U.S., encountered entry denial due to a felony conviction for marijuana possession and trafficking in Virginia back in 2016. Despite attempts to enter Canada through different routes, including Vancouver and Kelowna, British Columbia, he was stopped under the Immigration and Refugee Act.

The musician, who had previously toured Canada in 2024 and had gigs in Toronto and Saskatchewan, expressed regret for letting down his Canadian fans. He particularly highlighted the beauty of the country and the support he received from his fans there.

Jake Vaadeland and his band, who were set to open for Crockett on some tour dates, also expressed regret for missing out on the opportunity to perform for their fans. Vaadeland emphasized his hope for future opportunities to connect with their audience.

Crockett, known for his country-folk style and numerous album releases, is currently on a North American tour that began in Seattle and is set to continue in Pennsylvania. The cancellation of his Canadian tour has had a local impact, as mentioned by Kirby Wirchenko, the director of theatre and programming at TCU Place, who highlighted the broader effects on the arts, culture, economy, and disappointed fans. Refunds are being arranged for ticket holders affected by the cancellation.
