A former employee of Beast Industries has initiated a legal action against MrBeast’s media production firm, alleging unfair dismissal from her position as a social media manager after returning from maternity leave. The ex-employee, Lorrayne Mavromatis, filed the lawsuit in federal court in North Carolina, asserting that MrBeastYouTube and GameChanger 24/7 violated federal regulations regarding unpaid, job-protected leave for family and medical reasons, including childbirth.
Additionally, Mavromatis lodged a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, citing discrimination based on sex, pregnancy, and retaliation. She claimed to have worked tirelessly post-childbirth, even attending to work matters while still recovering in the hospital. Mavromatis recounted being fired less than three weeks after resuming full-time work.
A spokesperson for Beast Industries dismissed the lawsuit as a “clout-chasing complaint,” attributing Mavromatis’s termination to the elimination of her position during a team restructuring led by the new head of ecommerce. The company provided evidence of Mavromatis being informed of her rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act.
The legal action sheds light on concerns about the workplace culture within Beast Industries amid the company’s expansion efforts under the leadership of Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast. The lawsuit paints a picture of a toxic and misogynistic work environment that the company has been striving to improve as it ventures into new realms like television and financial services.
Allegations of workplace harassment and misconduct within Beast Industries emerged previously, prompting disciplinary actions and dismissals of certain employees. Donaldson has expressed a commitment to fostering a safe and productive work environment for all staff members.
The lawsuit was filed ahead of a prestigious event where Donaldson was set to be honored, putting the spotlight on the ongoing legal battle and the broader issue of workplace culture within Beast Industries. The legal action is supported by the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, underscoring the importance of accountability and combating harassment in the workplace.
