The Canadian ice hockey drama “Heated Rivalry” has been honored with a prestigious Peabody Award. The collaboration between Crave, Bell Media, and HBO Max garnered unexpected success upon its release in November 2025. The Peabody Awards judges recognized it as one of the top 11 television shows in the entertainment genre.
According to the Peabody Awards panel, “Heated Rivalry” skillfully navigates intricate themes of sexuality and emotional bonds, championing healthy masculinity and leaving a significant cultural imprint in the television landscape for the year. The series, conceived by Montreal filmmaker Jacob Tierney and inspired by novels from author Rachel Reid, delves into a clandestine romance between fictional professional ice hockey players Shane Hollander (portrayed by Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (played by Connor Storrie).
Following the accolade, Tierney and the official Instagram account of the show expressed gratitude for the recognition. Tierney remarked, “Every glance, every silence, every line crossed, this story was never simple. Honored to receive a Peabody Award for telling it the way it deserved to be told.” Reid also shared her pride, commenting, “So proud of everyone who made this,” accompanied by a joyful tears emoji.
The Directors Guild of Canada in Ontario joined the celebration on Instagram, applauding the show’s team and expressing their pride in the members who contributed to the series. The 86th Annual Peabody Awards ceremony, where the winners will be celebrated, is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on May 31st.
