With a record of 11-7-6, Vancouver heads into the final week of the inaugural Canadian professional women’s soccer league, maintaining a three-point lead over Ottawa and Montreal, both at 10-8-6, vying for the second spot in the six-team league standings.
Toronto has already secured the top spot in the standings, while Vancouver, Montreal, and Ottawa have secured the remaining playoff positions. The teams are set to compete in two-leg semifinals based on their standings after the upcoming week’s matches, leading up to the final scheduled for November 15 at Toronto’s BMO Field, where the winner will be awarded the Diana B. Matheson Cup.
Rise goalkeeper Morgan McAslan showcased a stellar performance, making three saves to achieve her second consecutive clean sheet.
In another match on Saturday, Meggie Dougherty Howard scored twice as the Calgary Wild defeated the Halifax Tides 3-1 in a game between teams eliminated from playoff contention. Grace Stordy also found the back of the net for the fifth-place Wild, improving their record to 8-14-2, while Syd Kennedy scored for the last-place Halifax team with a record of 3-14-7.
