Truck Driver Sues Ex-NFL QB Mark Sanchez

Published:

A lawsuit has been filed in Indiana state court by a 69-year-old truck driver, Perry Tole, who sustained serious injuries in a fight allegedly sparked by former NFL quarterback and sports analyst Mark Sanchez. Tole’s legal representatives lodged the lawsuit on Monday, seeking unspecified damages, including both actual and punitive, as well as attorney’s fees. The lawsuit claims that Sanchez initiated a confrontation with Tole late one Saturday night outside a hotel in downtown Indianapolis, resulting in significant physical harm, permanent disfigurement, loss of function, and emotional distress for Tole.

Police reports indicate that during the altercation, Tole also stabbed Sanchez multiple times. A photo circulating online shows Tole in a neck brace, lying in a hospital bed with visible injuries, including a deep slash on his face. Fox Sports, Sanchez’s employer, declined to comment on the lawsuit, and Sanchez’s legal team refrained from providing a statement regarding the legal action. Tole’s attorneys, who have requested a trial by jury, were unavailable for immediate comment.

Sanchez is currently facing a felony battery charge, along with several misdemeanor charges, related to what authorities described as a dispute over parking. Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears highlighted the severity of the incident during a press conference, emphasizing that the altercation stemmed from a disagreement over parking arrangements, resulting in severe injuries to one of the parties involved.

According to a police affidavit, Sanchez, aged 38, approached Tole, who had parked his truck near a hotel loading area in downtown Indianapolis, with the smell of alcohol on his person. The lawsuit filed by Tole alleges that Sanchez entered Tole’s truck without permission, physically confronted him, and was subsequently sprayed with pepper spray by Tole in self-defense. When Sanchez continued to advance after being sprayed, Tole drew a knife to protect himself, leading to the stabbing incident.

Sanchez, who was in Indianapolis for Fox’s coverage of a football game between the Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders, was hospitalized with stab wounds to his upper right torso. The former NFL player retired in 2019 after a decade-long career that included stints with the Jets, Philadelphia, Dallas, and Washington. Before joining Fox Sports as a game analyst in 2021, Sanchez had appeared on ABC and ESPN for two years.
