“Ontario SIU Probes 14-Year-Old’s Chase Crash”

Published:

Ontario’s police oversight body is looking into a car crash involving a 14-year-old driver who collided with another vehicle while being chased by police in Scarborough during the early hours of Sunday. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) informed CBC Toronto via email that a Toronto police officer in a marked car was pursuing the driver for speeding just before 1 a.m. when the collision occurred in the Kingston Road and Lawrence Avenue vicinity. The teenage driver sustained a serious injury and was transported to a hospital, while the three occupants of the other vehicle escaped without serious harm. The SIU has initiated an investigation, deploying three investigators, two forensic experts, and a collision reconstruction specialist to examine the case. The SIU’s mandate involves probing police interactions with the public that result in fatalities, severe injuries, or sexual assaults. Individuals with any information, such as videos or photos related to the incident, are encouraged to contact the SIU.
