Northern Ontario Legislator Chris Scott Removed From Premier’s PC Group

Published:

Northern Ontario legislator Chris Scott has been removed from Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative group following charges of assault and assault with a weapon. The premier’s office confirmed Scott’s departure from the caucus without providing a specific explanation.

During a news conference in eastern Ontario, Premier Ford mentioned being informed about Scott’s situation while in the parking lot and advised going to the Sault Ste. Marie police for further details, emphasizing non-interference in the police investigation.

Scott, the Sault Ste. Marie representative, faced the aforementioned charges stemming from an incident in the city. He was released from custody after a court hearing on Monday, agreeing to follow specific conditions, including refraining from contacting certain individuals involved in the incident.

While Sault Ste. Marie police initially reported Scott’s arrest by Toronto police, the exact nature of Toronto police involvement remains unclear. Scott, who won the Sault Ste. Marie seat in the recent Ontario election, narrowly defeating the New Democrat candidate, has a background working in Ford’s office as a special adviser and previously served under former Sault Conservative MPP Ross Romano.
