Lalonde, a long-time resident of Falconbridge, expressed concern over the black residue on her bright orange vehicle, a phenomenon she had encountered in the past following smelter-related events.
Following inquiries from the affected residents, Glencore confirmed that the dust emanated from their smelter during a routine cleaning process when the plant was not in operation. Public Health Sudbury and Districts, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks and Glencore, initiated an investigation after discovering the smelter dust on multiple properties in the area.
