Former Migos Rapper Offset Shot Outside Florida Casino

Published:

Offset, a former member of the renowned hip-hop trio Migos, was shot outside a Florida casino but is currently in stable condition, as per a spokesperson on Tuesday. Offset, previously married to Cardi B, was receiving medical care at a hospital following the shooting incident on Monday night, although his precise condition remained undisclosed. Authorities confirmed that his injuries were not life-threatening.

Notably, Offset’s cousin Takeoff, another Migos member, tragically lost his life in a shooting at a Houston bowling alley over three years ago. The recent shooting involving Offset occurred after an altercation outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, just north of Miami, according to the police. While one person sustained injuries, the victim’s identity was not disclosed.

Following the incident, law enforcement detained two individuals, including a rapper known as Lil Tjay, identified as Tione Jayden Merritt. Lil Tjay faced charges of disorderly conduct and driving without a valid license. His attorney, Dawn M. Florio, clarified that Lil Tjay was not in possession of a firearm and faced no charges related to guns or weapons. She mentioned that he posted bail for the accusations and was expected to be released on Tuesday afternoon.

The second individual apprehended at the scene has not been formally charged, and investigators were actively identifying other parties involved, according to a police statement on Tuesday. Offset, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, rose to fame as a member of Migos, an Atlanta-based group recognized for their distinctive rapid-fire triplet flow that influenced trap music significantly. The trio’s success was marked by hits like “Versace,” “Bad and Boujee,” “Stir Fry,” “Narcos,” and “T-Shirt,” with multiple platinum-selling singles and four full-length albums.

Offset and Cardi B tied the knot secretly in September 2017, with Cardi B filing for divorce in 2024. The couple shares three children. Meanwhile, Quavo, the third Migos member, aimed to turn his nephew Takeoff’s shooting tragedy into a catalyst for change, hosting an anti-gun violence summit in 2024. Takeoff was an innocent bystander in the fatal shooting incident, stemming from a dispute during a dice game.

Offset ventured into a solo career before the tragic loss of Takeoff. Known for his unique melodic and aggressive finesse, Offset released three solo albums: “Father of Four” in 2019, “Set It Off” in 2023, where he expressed his intent to revitalize rap, and “Kiari” in 2025, representing his genuine self and rebellion against conforming to others’ expectations.
