Canadian Defender Moise Bombito Faces New Injury Setback

Published:

Canadian defender Moise Bombito, a key player for OGC Nice, has once again faced a setback due to injury. The 25-year-old from Montreal sustained a fractured left tibia during a recent match against Monaco in the French Ligue 1, as confirmed by the club.

After a previous absence of four months due to wrist surgery and a tibia stress fracture, Bombito made his return to the field on September 28 against Paris FC. He was set to join the Canadian national team for upcoming friendlies against Australia and Colombia in October. However, his unfortunate injury occurred during the Monaco game when he fell awkwardly while trying to intercept a pass intended for Monaco forward Folarin Balogun.

Following the incident, Bombito was stretchered off the field and Monaco capitalized on a penalty kick, leveling the score at 2-2. The Canadian men’s team expressed their support for Bombito on social media, while Coach Jesse Marsch announced the inclusion of Kamal Miller from the Portland Timbers to replace the injured defender.

Despite this setback, Canada, currently ranked 26th in FIFA rankings, is gearing up to face Australia and Colombia in upcoming matches. Coach Marsch emphasized Bombito’s importance to the team and his hope for a swift recovery to continue his contribution to the national squad.

Bombito’s absence adds to the injury list for Canada, which already includes captain Alphonso Davies, Alistair Johnston, and Sam Adekugbe. The team continues to adapt and prepare for upcoming challenges in international competition.
