“Canada’s Homan, Jacobs Lead at Pan Continental Curling Champs”

Published:

Representing Canada this week at the Pan Continental Curling Championships in Virginia, Minn., are the curling teams led by Rachel Homan and Brad Jacobs. These championships are crucial qualifiers for the upcoming 2026 men’s and women’s world championships.

Brad Jacobs, hailing from Calgary, will kick off round-robin play on Monday at 8 p.m. ET against Xiaoming Xu and his team from China. In a previous encounter last April in Moose Jaw, Sask., Jacobs, along with vice Marc Kennedy, second Brett Gallant, and lead Ben Hebert, secured a convincing 11-2 victory over Xu’s team, earning a bronze medal.

The Glencoe Club quartet initiated the match with a three-point score and further extended their lead with five additional points in the fourth end.

“We aimed to start strong, maintain our resolve, and secure a spot on the podium,” Jacobs expressed at the time.

In the third end, Xu managed to score his first point by drawing against four counters. The turning point came in the fourth end when China missed a crucial shot, allowing Jacobs to capitalize and score five points.

Brad Jacobs and his Canadian rink dominated China with a score of 11-2, securing the bronze medal at the world curling championships in Moose Jaw, Sask.

Meanwhile, Rachel Homan’s team, representing the Ottawa Curling Club, will strive to defend their title as the Pan Continental women’s champions, having triumphed last year in Lacombe, Alta.

Women’s competition in Minnesota, the first time the event is hosted outside Canada, will commence on Tuesday at 10 a.m. ET, with Homan’s team clashing against Satsuki Fujisawa from Japan.

As the host nation for the women’s world championship scheduled for March next year, the Canadian rink is already guaranteed a place in the prestigious tournament.
