“Aubrey Plaza Expecting First Child Amid Tragic Loss”

Published:

Aubrey Plaza is set to take on a new role as she anticipates the arrival of her first child with partner Chris Abbott. A spokesperson for Plaza confirmed the news, describing it as a beautiful surprise following a challenging year for the couple. Plaza and Abbott, who have a history of working together as co-stars, are said to feel very fortunate.

Although CBC News reached out to Plaza’s representatives for comment, there has been no response so far. Plaza, known for her roles in “White Lotus” and “Girls,” had not publicly acknowledged her relationship with Abbott before. The pair shared the screen in the 2020 film “Black Bear” and also appeared together in the off-Broadway revival of “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea” in 2023.

Apart from her successful acting career, Plaza is also an author of children’s books. In recent years, she released titles such as “The Legend of the Christmas Witch” in 2021 and its sequel, “The Return of the Christmas Witch,” in 2022. During an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” Plaza shared the inspiration behind her stories, involving a mischievous twist during Christmas morning celebrations.

The news of Plaza’s pregnancy comes just over a year after the passing of her husband, Jeff Baena, who died by suicide at the age of 47 in January 2025. Plaza spoke about Baena’s death during an interview on Amy Poehler’s podcast, “Good Hang,” expressing the ongoing challenges of coping with her loss.

Describing her grief as a constant presence similar to a film she referenced, Plaza opened up about the struggles she faces daily. Despite the difficulties, she expressed gratitude for navigating through her emotions and moving forward in life. Plaza emphasized the complexity of her grief, comparing it to a dark pit surrounded by cliffs that she navigates on a daily basis.

For those in need of support, resources such as the Suicide Crisis Helpline and Kids Help Phone in Canada are available for assistance. Additionally, the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention offers access to 24-hour crisis centers for those seeking help. It is vital to have open conversations about mental health and suicide prevention, as outlined by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
