A record-breaking television production is set to commence in Prince Edward Island this summer. The province is investing $5 million, in the form of a rebate, to bring Canadian author Carley Fortune’s popular romance novel “This Summer Will Be Different” to life as a 10-episode series. The filming will take place in P.E.I. and Toronto.
During the recent announcement in Victoria, Robin Neinstein, the director of production management at Netflix Canada, expressed the significance of filming on the Island. Neinstein emphasized that P.E.I. is not just a backdrop in the book but a vital character integral to the story. The production is expected to create 75 job opportunities, including roles such as production assistants, painters, and caterers.
Rob Riselli, the executive director of Film P.E.I., highlighted that the project will showcase the beauty of the Island and potentially attract more productions in the future. Premier Rob Lantz praised the initiative as a boost for the province’s arts and culture sector and an opportunity to showcase P.E.I. globally.
Jenn Redmond, P.E.I.’s minister of economic development, viewed the filming as an investment in the province’s arts and culture industry, elevating its presence on the world stage. Despite initial concerns raised by the Opposition, Premier Lantz affirmed that the production is moving ahead as planned.
The exact release date for the series on Netflix has not been announced yet, leaving anticipation among the platform’s millions of users.
