The popular CBS TV series “Tracker” is shifting its production to California after filming in Vancouver and southern British Columbia for three seasons. Lead by actor Justin Hartley as a survivalist tracking missing persons for rewards, the show is set to start filming its fourth season in Los Angeles next month with the aid of a $48 million US tax credit.
Initially airing in February 2024 after the Super Bowl, “Tracker” has been a significant ratings success for CBS and airs on Global TV in Canada. The move has been described as “devastating” by Gemma Martini, CEO of Martini Film Studios, which hosted the series for its first three seasons near Vancouver.
Despite the loss, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office hailed the move, highlighting the positive impact on job creation and local businesses. The relocation is part of California’s $750 million incentive program aimed at attracting more productions to the state.
The shift of “Tracker” presents a setback for Vancouver’s film industry, especially as other productions like CBS’ “Watson” and “Fire Country” are facing cancellations or reductions. Nonetheless, the industry remains active with several projects in production, including the popular series “Animal Control” and “Scrubs,” alongside new ventures like Netflix Animation Studios’ Vancouver hub.
