A tragic incident in Guelph resulted in the death of a 38-year-old mother who, along with her family, was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the intersection of Paisley Road and Alma Street North. The accident occurred around 5 p.m. on Friday.
The woman, her husband also 38 years old, and their three-year-old daughter in a stroller were using the crosswalk when the pickup truck hit all three of them. Emergency services rushed them to Guelph General Hospital. Unfortunately, the mother succumbed to her injuries, while the father received treatment for minor wounds and was later discharged. Their daughter was airlifted to a Hamilton trauma center as a precaution and was released the same night.
The 19-year-old driver, a resident of northern Ontario, stayed at the scene unhurt. It remains uncertain whether any charges will be pressed in connection with the incident. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact them at 519-824-1212, ext. 7185.
