Leny Yoro sends message after brutal Thierry Henry rant forced Sky Sports into U-turn

    Published on:

Leny Yoro has posted on social media for the first time since Thierry Henry suffered backlash for his ‘pathetic’ criticism of the Manchester United defender. Arsenal legend Henry focussed on Yoro’s performance during Sunday’s 4-1 thrashing against Newcastle, with one moment catching his attention.

Henry pointed out how Yoro, 19, instinctively looked at the linesman after Harvey Barnes scored Newcastle’s third goal. There was no chance of an offside but the United’s £52million summer signing was looking in that direction.

“Look at Yoro and what he is asking for,” Henry said on Sky Sports‘ Monday Night Football. “We all know it’s a goal. What are you looking at? I actually don’t know. I’ve never seen that before.”

Sky posted a clip of the Henry’s criticism on X, formerly Twitter, but it was quickly deleted after United fans took issue with the former Arsenal striker. Jamie Carragher, who he joined on the show, reshared the clip on his personal account, adding four crying emojis before also clicking delete.

Henry and Carragher have been accused of bullying, with Sky also facing backlash for sharing the clip. Now Yoro has spoken out, posting a bible passage on Instagram.

Alongside an image of him looking dejected after full-time against Newcastle, the passage read in French: “Do not be anxious about anything, but always ask God for what you need. And when you pray, ask for it with thanksgiving. Philippians 4:6.”

United supporters have rallied around Yoro, who was signed from Lille last July amid concrete interest from Real Madrid. “This is proper pathetic from all involved,” one fan posted on X. “A year ago, Henry said ‘what he is doing is extraordinary’ about Yoro, and now he’s bashing him for nothing. Punditry in the toilet these days.”

A second wrote: “Slightly uncomfortable and borderline embarrassing analysis from Thierry Henry on Leny Yoro’s role in Harvey Barnes third goal, 19-year-old defender by the way.”

Some fans claimed bias against United, with one arguing: “I like Henry but this is nonsense. Frozen a clip just to make a cheap joke on a young centre half. If Yoro plays for Fulham or [Crystal] Palace they wouldn’t dream of using this ‘analysis’.”

Another supporter posted: “Thierry Henry’s criticism of Leny Yoro is completely unwarranted. He’s a teenager learning his craft. This kind of ‘analysis’ is just lazy and unhelpful. Carragher deleted his tweet mocking Yoro. Clowns, the lot of them.”
