Celebrity Big Brother hit with over 1,000 Ofcom complaints over Mickey Rourke’s homophobic slur

    Published on:

Celebrity Big Brother received 1,010 Ofcom complaints for their episode which aired on April 9. During the episode, Mickey Rourke, 72, made homophobic comments towards JoJo Siwa, 21, stating he “wanted to get the lesbian out”.

Later on, the Hollywood star revealed he “needed a fag,” as he made his way to the smoking area before pointing to JoJo and saying: “I’m not talking to you.”

Mickey was later called to the Diary Room and given a formal warning by Big Brother. Asked if he understood how his language could be offensive to housemates and the public, the star said: “Yeah I think so. If I was saying it in a nasty kind of way or if I truly meant it.

“I apologise. I don’t have dishonourable intentions – I’m just talking smack you know. I wasn’t taking it all so serious. I didn’t mean in it any bad intentions and if I did, sorry,” he told Big Brother before later apologising to JoJo.

Now, official Ofcom figures reveal that the episode received 1,010 Ofcom complaints. The live launch, which aired on April 7 received 78 complaints.

During the launch, Mickey made viewers feel uncomfortable as he appeared to briefly gyrate against AJ’s behind before eyeing her up and down during his introduction to the crowd.

Despite Mickey’s apology following his comments towards JoJo, he was removed from the house just days later following “instances of unacceptable behaviour.”

The Hollywood actor was kicked out of the show on Saturday night after his behaviour was deemed to be aggressive and threatening towards reality star turned presenter, Chris Hughes.

He also made crude comments towards TOWIE star Ella Rae Wise, leaving her in tears. “I have instructions for us all. We’re not allowed in the bedroom, no one is allowed to touch the crisps or sweets,” Ella informed the group.

Mickey then told her: “I don’t like them” before Ella responded: “You’ve got to come with me!” The film star then shocked everyone, replying to her: “Come in you?”

The crude comments and his “threatening” behaviour towards Chris Hughes resulted in Mickey’s immediate removal from the house.

As he was called to the Diary Room, Big Brother revealed: “Big Brother considers your language and behaviour today to be seriously unacceptable and as a result Big Brother has no option but to ask you to leave the Big Brother house.

Celebrity Big Brother 2025 airs weeknights and Sundays at 9PM on ITV1 and ITVX.
