Published:

Brad Arnold, the frontman of the rock group 3 Doors Down, passed away on Saturday at the age of 47 after battling Stage 4 kidney cancer. The band announced his peaceful passing while he was surrounded by family and friends. 3 Doors Down, originating in Mississippi in 1995, gained recognition with their Grammy-nominated track “Kryptonite,” written by Arnold at the age of 15 during a math class.

Their debut album, “The Better Life,” sold over six million copies, and they received another Grammy nomination in 2003 for their song “When I’m Gone.” The band was praised for reshaping mainstream rock by fusing post-grunge accessibility with heartfelt songwriting that resonated with a broad audience.

3 Doors Down released six albums, with their latest being “Us and the Night” in 2016. Their singles, including “Loser,” “Duck and Run,” and “Be Like That,” featured on the soundtrack of the 2001 movie “American Pie 2.” Arnold, reflecting on their music journey while promoting their fifth album, “Time of My Life,” acknowledged the growth and improvement over the years.

In 2017, the band performed at the inaugural concert for then-U.S. President Donald Trump. Arnold revealed his cancer diagnosis in May, disclosing that the disease had spread to his lungs. This unfortunate news led to the cancellation of their summer tour. The band paid tribute to Arnold’s musical legacy, highlighting the lasting impact of his performances on audiences worldwide.
