Toyota is issuing a recall for 70,480 vehicles in Canada due to a problem with the instrument panel display that may not show essential information, potentially increasing the risk of accidents or injuries, according to Transport Canada’s updated recall notice. The recall, initially announced on Sept. 11, includes various models such as Venza, Highlander, Tacoma, and GR Corolla, along with some Lexus models, affecting only vehicles equipped with a 12.3-inch display.
The issue stems from a glitch in the instrument panel software during vehicle startup, which could cause the display to not show critical details like vehicle speed, brake system status, and tire pressure warning lights, as per the notice. Transport Canada stated that affected owners will receive notification via mail, instructing them to visit a dealership for a software update on the combination meter. For certain vehicles, dealers will also inspect and potentially replace the combination meter.
Toyota Canada anticipates reaching out to impacted vehicle owners by mid-November, as indicated in a recent statement on their website.
