Rachel Homan’s impressive performance in Canadian women’s curling continued on Sunday. Just one day before the anniversary of her last defeat to a Canadian competitor, Homan secured a flawless week at the PointsBet Invitational with a 6-2 win over Corryn Brown from Kamloops, B.C., at Calgary’s WinSport Event Centre.
Expressing her respect for Brown’s strong performance throughout the week, Homan acknowledged the need to bring their best game against such tough competition. Despite Brown’s attempts to gain an advantage in the fourth end and the fifth end, Homan’s team capitalized on key mistakes to secure a lead.
Known as the “Homan Empire,” falling behind early against Homan’s team is often a challenging situation for opponents. Homan’s squad, comprising Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew, and Sarah Wilkies, had not experienced a defeat against a Canadian team since October 6, 2024, when they lost to Kerri Einarson.
Following her 27 consecutive victories against Canadian opponents, Homan emphasized the team’s focus on continuous improvement throughout the season. In the men’s final, Matt Dunstone claimed his first PointsBet Invitational title by defeating Brad Jacobs, highlighting the team’s determination after previous final losses.
Looking ahead to the Canadian Olympic trials in November, Homan’s team remains committed to their goal of representing Canada at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Despite the loss, Brown praised her team’s progress and performance throughout the week, showcasing their growth and determination in the competition.
