Lil Nas X Opens Up About Bipolar Disorder and Rehab

Published:

Lil Nas X took to Instagram recently to discuss his bipolar disorder diagnosis and time in rehab, following an incident last summer where he faced charges for an altercation with Los Angeles police officers. The pop star revealed that he had been in rehab for several months, sought therapy, and acknowledged the importance of medication in managing his condition. Despite the challenges he faces as a black, gay, and bipolar individual, he expressed optimism, stating that he is feeling better, creating new music, and embracing life more freely.

Although he did not directly address the charges in his social media post, the incident involved Lil Nas X allegedly confronting police officers while nearly naked on a street in Los Angeles. Subsequently, he was released on bail after pleading not guilty to multiple felony charges related to the altercation. Following his arrest, the artist shared a video update on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the support he received during a challenging period.

After entering a mental health diversion program, Lil Nas X was given the opportunity to have the charges against him dismissed if he complies with treatment and legal requirements for two years. The court attributed the incident to his diagnosed bipolar disorder, considering it an aberration from his typical behavior. The singer, known for his controversial career, gained fame with the hit song “Old Town Road” and has since navigated both acclaim and criticism, particularly regarding his impact on the country music genre.

Despite facing backlash for various projects, including the “Satan shoes” campaign and provocative music videos, Lil Nas X continues to push boundaries with his artistry. His latest works reflect personal themes of self-discovery and liberation, with upcoming projects slated for release.
