“Kevin Gausman to Start ALDS Opener for Blue Jays”

Published:

Kevin Gausman is set to take the mound as the starting pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays in the opening game of the American League Division Series against the New York Yankees on Saturday. This decision was confirmed by Manager John Schneider during a media briefing at Rogers Centre before the team’s practice session. On the other side, the Yankees have not yet announced their starting pitcher for the game.

Gausman, who posted a 10-11 record with a 3.59 ERA and 189 strikeouts in 32 starts during the previous season, will be a key player for the Blue Jays. Meanwhile, Toronto’s shortstop, Bo Bichette, continues to be sidelined due to a day-to-day left knee sprain, as mentioned by Schneider.

Both teams are anticipated to reveal their 26-man series rosters on Saturday morning. Despite both finishing the regular season with a 94-68 record, the Blue Jays clinched the top seed based on a superior head-to-head record against the Yankees.

The Yankees secured their spot in the ALDS after defeating the Boston Red Sox 4-0 in the decisive game of the wild-card series on Thursday night. Last year, New York claimed the AL pennant but fell short against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.

Looking ahead, the Blue Jays aim to secure their first postseason victory since 2016, having faced three consecutive wild-card series defeats between 2020 and ’23.
