Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited the set of the television show “Son of a Critch” along with his youngest son, who shares his father’s enthusiasm for the program. During the upcoming fifth season of the CBC comedy, viewers might catch a glimpse of 12-year-old Hadrien Trudeau in a cameo role.
Creator Mark Critch revealed that the scene featuring Hadrien involves the main character’s classmates discovering their roles in a school play. While jokingly mentioning that the elder Trudeau was not included in any scenes due to the presence of a drama teacher, Critch expressed his delight in hosting the former prime minister and his son, who are avid fans of the show.
Trudeau shared photos from the set on his Instagram account, expressing gratitude for the experience and praising the show as a quintessential representation of Canadian culture. The visit lasted for two days, during which Trudeau and Hadrien interacted with the cast and crew, with the father observing his son’s performance on the production monitors.
During their time on set, Hadrien impressed actor Malcolm McDowell, who plays Pops, with his knowledge of intricate show details, engaging in friendly competitions with the cast about the show’s minutiae. British actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, portraying a young Mark Critch, revealed that Hadrien discussed acting decisions, scene blocking, and background tips with him.
The bond between Critch and Trudeau extends beyond “Son of a Critch,” as they have previously collaborated on CBC’s political satire show “This Hour Has 22 Minutes.” Trudeau’s affinity for the show was unveiled during Critch’s book launch event in Ottawa last autumn.
Trudeau, a father of three, including Xavier and Ella-Grace, has seen his children pursue their passions, with Xavier venturing into a music career and releasing his debut R&B track, “Til The Nights Done,” featuring vocals from his sister. The Trudeaus’ connection to the entertainment industry continues to evolve, reflecting a shared appreciation for Canadian creativity.
