In an August decision, a Saskatoon judge sentenced Riley Collin Gullickson to 13 years in prison for a brutal assault on James Graham outside a Salvation Army building. The judge highlighted how Gullickson, under the influence of methamphetamine, viciously attacked Graham without provocation, causing life-altering injuries. The entire incident was captured on video.
The judge described how Gullickson, prior to the attack, was seen agitatedly gesturing and then targeted Graham, who was sleeping on the sidewalk. Gullickson woke Graham, proceeded to kick and stomp on him, and even used a knife to harm him further. Graham endured extensive injuries and remains in a care facility with severe impairments, including being wheelchair-bound and incontinent.
Gullickson’s bleak criminal history, including over 40 offenses and a persistent methamphetamine addiction, painted a grim outlook. Despite being out of custody for only four days, Gullickson showed no remorse for his actions and expressed indifference towards causing harm to others.
With 10 years left to serve after receiving credit for time served, Gullickson’s callous behavior and lack of empathy towards his victims were highlighted during the sentencing.
