“Jeremy Hansen’s Epic Space Journey: Worth the Wait”

Published:

Jeremy Hansen patiently waited for 16 years before finally embarking on his space journey, which ultimately proved to be worth the long wait. In an exclusive interview with CBC News from the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, Hansen reflected on his remarkable mission.

Recruited alongside David Saint-Jacques in 2009, Hansen spent years in Houston undergoing rigorous training, never anticipating that his mission would involve a flight around the moon. Despite the challenges posed by the evolving landscape of NASA’s space program, Hansen embraced the journey with enthusiasm, cherishing the extraordinary experiences along the way.

On April 1, Hansen found himself atop NASA’s powerful Space Launch System (SLS) rocket alongside his NASA crewmates Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, bound for the moon. The exhilarating launch aboard the SLS rocket, reminiscent of the historic Saturn V rocket that propelled Apollo astronauts to the moon, was a highlight for Hansen.

Throughout the mission, Hansen, fortunately, did not experience space sickness, attributing his well-being to the confined space of the spacecraft. However, he did encounter some discomfort due to the shift of bodily fluids in microgravity.

Hansen also shared insights into the challenges faced during the Artemis II mission, such as adapting to the spacecraft’s water system and managing unexpected issues like Earth’s brightness interfering with photography. Despite these hurdles, Hansen and his crew improvised solutions, showcasing their adaptability and resourcefulness.

Reflecting on his return to Earth, Hansen emphasized the profound human connection forged during the mission, underscoring the collective experience shared with people on Earth. As he readjusts to gravity, Hansen treasures the memories of his space journey, highlighting the blend of visual, physical, and emotional experiences that made the mission truly unforgettable.
