Israeli television producer Dana Eden, known for her involvement in creating the award-winning series “Tehran,” passed away unexpectedly in Greece, as reported by Israeli public broadcaster KAN on Monday. The 52-year-old Eden was discovered deceased in a hotel in Athens, with Greek authorities indicating that initial findings suggested she had taken her own life, ruling out any foul play. Eden had traveled to Greece for the filming of the fourth season of the popular series.
Describing Dana Eden as one of the prominent figures in Israel’s television industry, KAN expressed deep sadness over her sudden demise, emphasizing her significant contributions to the field. Eden’s production company, Donna and Shula Productions, addressed speculations surrounding her death, emphasizing that rumors of criminal or politically motivated circumstances were baseless and urged for respect for Eden’s dignity and the privacy of her loved ones.
Miki Zohar, Israel’s Culture and Sports Minister, mourned Eden’s passing on social media, praising her as a leading and influential producer within the Israeli television landscape. Zohar highlighted Eden’s impact in showcasing Israeli narratives on the global stage with skill and bravery.
“Tehran,” which debuted in Israel and on Apple TV in 2020, narrates the story of Tamar Rabinyan, a Mossad operative assigned with infiltrating the Iranian nuclear reactor. The series clinched the best drama series title at the 49th International Emmy Awards in November 2021. Dana Eden’s television career took off in the 1990s in Israel, working on various shows before achieving international success with “Tehran.” Notably, her program “Saving the Wildlife” secured the best TV magazine for children and youth award at the Israeli Television Academy Awards in 2018.
