Actor Nicholas Brendon, best known for his role as Xander Harris on the popular TV show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” has passed away at the age of 54. His official Instagram page confirmed the news, stating that Brendon died peacefully in his sleep due to natural causes.

The statement highlighted Brendon’s transition from acting to painting and art in recent years, emphasizing his passion, sensitivity, and dedication to creativity. Known for his portrayal of Xander Harris, the nerdy and witty friend of the slayer in “Buffy,” Brendon’s art was described as a true reflection of his inner self.

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” a groundbreaking teen drama set in the fictional town of Sunnydale, featured Brendon as Xander Harris throughout its run from 1997 to 2003. Co-stars such as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Emma Caulfield, David Boreanaz, and Charisma Carpenter paid tribute to Brendon following his passing.

Gellar, who played Buffy, shared a poignant quote from the show, expressing her belief that Brendon had found peace. Hannigan, known for her role as Willow Rosenberg, fondly remembered Brendon as “My sweet Nicky.”

Aside from his role in “Buffy,” Brendon also starred in “Criminal Minds” as Kevin Lynch and appeared in shows like “Private Practice” and “Kitchen Confidential.” He openly discussed his battles with addiction and mental health issues over the years, facing legal troubles and health challenges.

Despite his struggles, Brendon remained hopeful about the future, receiving medical treatment for his conditions. The news of his passing comes amid plans for a “Buffy” reboot on Hulu, which Gellar recently announced would not be moving forward.
