“Brown’s Team Holds Strong, Secures Top Spot in PointsBet Invitational”

Corryn Brown continued her winning streak at the PointsBet Invitational curling event by defeating Kate Cameron 10-6 in Calgary on Friday. The team from Kamloops, B.C., maintained a flawless 3-0 record, securing the top position in the women’s Pool B.

Despite a strong effort from Cameron’s team from St. Adolphe, Man., who scored two points in the eighth end and stole one in the ninth to narrow the gap to 7-6, Brown capitalized on the hammer in the final end to secure the victory.

Following the loss to Brown, Cameron’s rink fell to a 1-3 record after being defeated by Selena Sturmay of Edmonton 6-4 in the late draw on Friday. Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Man., secured second place in Pool B with a 2-1 record after an 11-4 win over Sturmay.

In the women’s Pool A category, Kaitlyn Lawes from Winnipeg moved into second place with a 2-1 record after a convincing 10-3 victory over Myla Plett from Edmonton.

Meanwhile, Rachel Homan from Ottawa maintained her lead in Pool A with an unbeaten 3-0 record after defeating Myla Plett 12-4. Christina Black from Halifax secured her first win with an 8-5 triumph over Beth Peterson from Winnipeg, with both teams standing at 1-2.

Turning to the men’s division, Mike McEwen from Winnipeg dominated with a 7-2 win over Rylan Kleiter from Saskatoon, leading Pool B with a perfect 3-0 record. John Epping’s Toronto-based team also remained undefeated at 3-0 in Pool A after an 8-5 victory over Cal MacIsaac from Truro, N.S.

Brad Jacobs from Calgary improved to 2-1 in Pool A with an 8-5 win over Brad Gushue from St. John’s, Nfld., who now stands at 1-2. Jordon McDonald from Winnipeg pulled into a second-place tie in Pool B with a 2-1 record after defeating Matt Dunstone 10-5.

The final round-robin matches are set for Saturday. The tournament features two pools of five teams each in both the men’s and women’s categories. The top team from each pool will advance to the championship games on Sunday, with a total prize purse of $300,000 up for grabs.
