“Israeli Forces Kill 3 Palestinians Near Gaza Strip Boundary”

Published:

Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip killed three Palestinians on Monday near Rafah, escalating tensions amid a fragile ceasefire backed by the U.S. The Israeli military claimed the individuals were perceived as “terrorists” crossing a designated boundary, posing a threat to their troops before being targeted. Medics confirmed one victim was a woman, while the identities of the other two remain unknown.

Recent days have seen continued Israeli strikes in the region, leading to accusations from both Hamas and Israel regarding breaches of the ongoing ceasefire agreement. Reports indicate ongoing demolitions of homes in Rafah, Khan Younis, and Gaza City by Israeli forces operating in these areas.

Since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10, most hostilities have subsided, enabling Palestinians to return to their damaged homes in Gaza. Hamas released 20 living hostages in exchange for around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, with further negotiations ongoing for the return of hostage remains.

However, violence persists, with Palestinian health authorities reporting 239 deaths from Israeli strikes in Gaza post-truce, including a significant toll in a recent retaliatory operation by Israel. The handover of Palestinian bodies by Israel to Gaza continues, with challenges in identifying the remains due to alleged signs of mistreatment and limited forensic resources.

Israel has acknowledged the loss of three soldiers and targeted numerous fighters in response to the conflict. The Gaza Health Ministry confirmed receiving 45 Palestinian bodies from Israeli custody, increasing the total returned bodies to 270, of which only 78 have been identified. The identification process is complex due to resource shortages, with authorities resorting to online photos to aid families in recognition.

Hamas has reciprocated by returning hostages’ remains, with 20 out of 28 bodies retrieved from Gaza thus far. Efforts continue to resolve the remaining bodies and restore stability in the region amid ongoing tensions.
