“2026 CBC Short Story Prize Longlist Revealed”

Thirty writers from various regions in Canada have been selected for the longlist of the 2026 CBC Short Story Prize from a pool of almost 3,000 entries. The list includes works such as “YSL Classes” by Oluwatoke Adejoye, “Things I Know for Sure” by Katrina Agbayani, and “Pattern Recognition” by Amber Allen. Submissions are rigorously reviewed by two committees before the final longlist is determined by a jury comprised of Maria Reva, Terry Fallis, and Tracey Lindberg. The winner of the prize, to be announced on May 7, will receive $6,000, a writing residency at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and publication on CBC Books. Additionally, four finalists will each receive $1,000 and have their works published. Last year’s victor was Dorian McNamara for “You (Streetcar at Night).” The French-language competition longlist has also been disclosed, and submissions for the 2026 CBC Poetry Prize are ongoing. Future editions of the CBC Literary Prizes, including the 2027 CBC Short Story Prize and the 2027 CBC Nonfiction Prize, will open for submissions in the coming months.
