Once hailed as a rising star in Canadian men’s figure skating, he faced setbacks due to a significant growth spurt and recurring back injuries. Struggling to maintain his competitive edge in recent years and sidelined for consecutive seasons, Gogolev questioned his future in the sport.
After much contemplation, the 20-year-old decided to give skating another chance, a choice he now deems worthwhile. He recently claimed his first senior gold medal at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, Germany, showcasing a remarkable performance that highlighted his return to form. Gogolev excelled in both the short and long programs, earning a total score of 255.06 points, a significant improvement from his previous seasons.
