Netflix Canada has announced that Carley Fortune’s popular romance novel, “This Summer Will Be Different,” will be adapted into a 10-episode series. The story follows Lucy, who meets Felix on a summer trip to Prince Edward Island, sparking a romantic connection despite the complication that Felix is her best friend Bridget’s younger brother. As Lucy navigates her feelings and loyalty, she finds herself entangled in unexpected emotions. The TV adaptation will be filmed in Toronto and on Prince Edward Island to capture the essence of the book’s settings.
Carley Fortune, a Toronto-based writer and journalist, expressed her excitement about bringing the love story to life on screen. Inspired by the beauty of Prince Edward Island and the enduring bonds of friendship, Fortune aims to transport viewers to the captivating landscapes and heartfelt narratives of the island. Her previous novels include “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.” Fortune’s upcoming book, “Our Perfect Storm,” is set to be published on May 5.
Additionally, “Every Summer After” is currently being developed into a television series named “Every Year After” on Amazon Prime Video. Furthermore, “Meet Me at the Lake” has been optioned for a film adaptation by Netflix and Archewell Productions, owned by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Notably, it was a significant contender for Canada Reads and championed in 2024 by Mirian Njoh.
