A restaurant in Niagara has achieved the prestigious recognition of earning a second Michelin star, placing it among the elite establishments in Canada. Pearl Morissette Restaurant, located in the Lincoln, Ont., neighborhood of Jordan Station, has joined Tanière in Quebec City as one of the only two Michelin-starred restaurants in the country. This accolade places them ahead of 34 one-star restaurants and without any three-star establishments in Canada, as confirmed by the Michelin website. However, Toronto’s Sushi Masaki Saito, which received a second star in 2022, had it revoked in the latest Michelin assessment.
Co-owner and chef of Restaurant Pearl Morissette, Eric Robertson, expressed enthusiasm for the focus on Canadian ingredients showcased by both restaurants. The Michelin guide recently commended Pearl Morissette as a “powerhouse,” praising its tasting menu and expertly curated wine and juice pairings.
Michelin inspectors evaluate restaurants based on five key criteria, such as the quality of ingredients, flavor mastery, cooking techniques, chef’s culinary identity, flavor harmony, and consistency across visits. Pearl Morissette’s unique selling point lies in its integration with a winery of the same name, utilizing locally sourced ingredients that vary with the seasons and market availability. The restaurant predominantly sources ingredients from Niagara farms and lakes, supplementing with in-house cultivation when necessary.
Robertson emphasized the importance of local sourcing, stating that “proximity is the best ingredient.” The restaurant’s commitment to showcasing its farm, greenhouse, vineyard, apiary, and pasture through floor-to-ceiling windows enhances the dining experience, offering guests insight into the region’s farming practices and encouraging support for local markets.
In a statement posted on Instagram, the restaurant expressed gratitude to its team, suppliers, and guests for their contributions to its success. Pearl Morissette, known for its French-inspired cuisine, previously earned its first Michelin star last year and topped the list of Canada’s Best 100 Restaurants in 2025.
Robertson, a Brantford native with international culinary experience, teamed up with Toronto chef Daniel Hadida to establish the restaurant in 2014. The upcoming November marks the eighth anniversary of their collaboration at Pearl Morissette Restaurant.
