Former Phoenix Suns legend Steve Nash has been appointed as a senior adviser to the team, as confirmed by owner Mat Ishbia on Monday. In a social media post, Ishbia praised Nash for embodying the qualities that the Suns stand for, including his tenacity, resilience, and championship mindset. Nash, hailing from Victoria, enjoyed his peak performance while playing for the Suns, clinching consecutive MVP titles in 2005 and 2006. His illustrious career led to his induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.
At 51 years old, Nash transitioned into coaching after retiring as a player and took the helm at the Brooklyn Nets for over two seasons, achieving a commendable 94-67 record. However, his tenure was cut short in 2022 following a slow start to the season. The Suns, coming off a lackluster 36-46 season, underwent significant roster changes during the off-season, parting ways with star Kevin Durant and finalizing a buyout of Bradley Beal’s contract. Nash’s appointment as senior adviser is expected to play a key role in shaping the Suns’ future trajectory.
