“RCMP Assistant Commissioner Faces Assault Charges”

Published:

Assistant Commissioner David Teboul from the RCMP is facing charges of three counts of assault, as reported by the B.C Prosecution Service (BCPS). The alleged incidents took place on July 2 when Teboul, who serves as the federal policing regional commander for the Pacific Region, was off duty in Abbotsford, B.C.

According to BCPS, Teboul is accused of one count of assault and one count of assault by choking involving one complainant, as well as a third count of assault related to a second complainant. Teboul, a member of the Mounties since 1997 and currently holding the position since 2024, has been involved in various high-profile cases in B.C., including updates on illicit drug investigations and the inquiry into the murder of Sikh-Canadian activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey.

Abbotsford police responded to a reported assault at a public facility in the 2400 block of McMillan Road. Although the specific facility was not disclosed, the area includes the Abbotsford Recreation Centre and McMillan Park, which features various sports amenities. The Abbotsford Police Department refrained from further comments, citing a publication ban on the case.

In response to the charges, Dawn Roberts, the director overseeing B.C. RCMP communications, mentioned that a code of conduct investigation was initiated by the force upon learning of the allegations. Teboul has been temporarily reassigned, with his duty status under continuous review.

The BCPS has appointed Andi MacKay, a senior lawyer based in Vancouver, as a special prosecutor for the case to ensure impartiality given the nature of the accusations and Teboul’s position of authority within the police force. Teboul’s initial court appearance is scheduled for October 9 at the Abbotsford Law Courts.
