“Queen of Canada” cult leader released on bail; faces trial

Published:

The individual known as the “Queen of Canada” was released on bail on Monday morning and was instructed to remain in Regina until her trial. Romana Didulo, who made an appearance in court in Swift Current, Sask., was provided with specific conditions. Violating any of these conditions would result in the 50-year-old leader of the cult being put back in jail.

Among the conditions imposed on her are staying away from Richmound, Sask., the village where her cult has resided for the past two years, refraining from contact with certain individuals including Ricky Manz, the owner of the former school where the cult resided, and not possessing any weapons. Didulo opted for a trial by jury with a preliminary inquiry and is set to return to court on Sept. 17.

During her bail hearing in Swift Current, Sask., a group of twelve supporters wearing white hats greeted Didulo as she made her way to court. She addressed the media, instructing her followers to secure certain assets and emphasized her belief that the court had no jurisdiction over her.

Richmound Mayor Brad Miller expressed relief at the arrests of Didulo and her supporter Ricky Manz, stating that it was positive news for the village. He mentioned that the community had faced challenges due to the presence of the cult and now looks forward to moving on and regaining a sense of normalcy.

The Crown prosecutor, Curtis Wiebe, mentioned that the court process involving Didulo could extend over a year. He highlighted the concern regarding the accused considering herself a sovereign citizen and the importance of ensuring compliance with court-ordered conditions.

Didulo was remanded following her initial court appearance on charges of failing to comply with an undertaking and intimidating a justice system participant. These charges relate to an investigation in Richmound where the cult was based, and involve allegations of intimidating individuals, including a police officer.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority has deemed the former school where the cult resided unfit for habitation and issued an order to vacate the premises. This decision was made due to health concerns and compliance issues, leading to an eviction order for anyone still occupying the building.

Overall, the situation involving the “Queen of Canada” and her cult members has garnered significant attention and legal proceedings are expected to unfold over the coming months.
