Desiree Scott, a three-time Canadian Olympic soccer medalist, has announced that her playing career will come to a close after the playoffs, following her decision to postpone retirement and join Ottawa Rapid for the inaugural Northern Super League season. Scott, who participated in three World Cups and earned 188 caps for the national team before retiring internationally in May, had initially planned to end her career at the conclusion of the NWSL season in October 2024. However, in January, it was revealed that she would continue playing in Ottawa.
The 38-year-old midfielder has been a key player for the Rapid, scoring the winning goal in their first match and logging 1,445 minutes on the field this season. With the team securing a playoff spot in the six-team league, Scott’s contributions have been instrumental to their success.
Reflecting on her career, Scott expressed gratitude for the opportunity to conclude her playing days in Canada, surrounded by passionate fans in a professional league that was once just a dream. Team CEO Thomas Gilbert commended Scott for her leadership, resilience, and dedication, emphasizing her positive impact on both her teammates and the organization.
The Rapid will honor Scott’s illustrious career during their final regular-season home game on October 8th.
