“Montreal’s Charlotte Cardin Reveals Billboard’s Woman of the Year”

Published:

Montreal’s very own Charlotte Cardin was named the recipient of the first-ever Woman of the Year Award by Billboard Canada in 2024. Recently, Cardin revealed that the Toronto rock band, the Beaches, has been selected as this year’s deserving winner.

Billboard Canada initiated its Toronto event last year, where notable figures like Alanis Morissette, Jully Black, and Jessie Reyez were honored. The Beaches, comprising members Jordan and Kylie Miller, Eliza Enman-McDaniel, and Leandra Earl, are set to accept the prestigious Billboard Women in Music Award on October 1 in Toronto. This recognition follows their second Juno Award win for group of the year.

During an interview with iHeartRadio host Shannon Burns, Cardin joyfully disclosed the award news to the Beaches, who initially thought she was calling about their latest album, “No Hard Feelings.” The band expressed gratitude and excitement upon hearing the announcement.

Reflecting on the music industry’s gender representation, Cardin highlighted the importance of initiatives like Billboard’s Woman of the Year, emphasizing the need for more inclusivity among musicians, technicians, producers, artists, and managers. Cardin stressed that such initiatives are crucial in promoting gender equality in the industry.

The announcement of additional 2025 Billboard Women in Music honorees is expected to unfold throughout September, showcasing more talented women in the music industry.
