Liverpool Football Club has confirmed that the Football Association is investigating allegations of discriminatory comments made by a goalkeeper in the women’s team. The reported remarks by Rafaela Borggräfe were overheard by teammates and staff during a team photo session, as per Britain’s PA News agency.
In response to inquiries regarding the situation involving Borggräfe, Liverpool Women released a statement acknowledging the alleged use of discriminatory language by one of their players. The club stated that they have adhered to their protocols and reported the incident to the FA, who is now conducting an investigation with Liverpool’s full cooperation.
Expressing their stance against all forms of discrimination, Liverpool emphasized that such behavior has no place in football or society. The club refrained from providing additional comments while the investigation remains ongoing.
Borggräfe, aged 25, is yet to debut for Liverpool since her transfer from Freiburg to the Women’s Super League team in July. Despite not featuring in the opening league match, she has resumed training with the squad and was listed as an unused substitute in a recent game against Leicester. Liverpool is scheduled to face Aston Villa on September 21.
