Lil Nas X Faces Felony Charges After Nude Incident

Published:

Lil Nas X faced four felony charges on Monday following an incident where he allegedly charged at police after being found walking nude on a Los Angeles street. Montero Lamar Hill, the artist’s legal name, entered a plea of not guilty to three counts of battery causing injury to law enforcement officers and one count of resisting an executive officer during a court appearance. Originally suspected of obstructing an officer, the charges now carry the potential for over 10 years imprisonment upon conviction.

The 26-year-old was discovered naked on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City early Friday morning, prompting police intervention. Upon confrontation, he reportedly lunged at the officers and was subsequently apprehended. Concerned about a potential overdose, law enforcement took him to a hospital before transferring him to jail, where he has remained in custody.

With a bail set at $75,000 US contingent on attending drug rehabilitation, Lil Nas X’s release status remained uncertain at the time of reporting. His attorney, Christy O’Connor, highlighted the artist’s successful career, which includes two Grammy wins, emphasizing that the recent allegations were out of character for him.

Scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on September 15, the rapper gained fame with the chart-topping hit “Old Town Road” in 2018, blending country and hip-hop influences. His 2021 album “Montero” reached No. 2 on the Billboard charts and received a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year, showcasing his innovative musical style.
