Bernstein has captured some of the most iconic moments in sports photography history as the primary team photographer for the Lakers, Kings, Clippers, and Dodgers in Los Angeles. Establishing strong relationships with renowned athletes such as Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Kobe Bryant, Bernstein became a trusted observer at major sporting events, including the Dream Team’s triumph at the 1992 Summer Olympics, Michael Jordan’s inaugural NBA championship victory with the Chicago Bulls, and Wayne Gretzky’s historic 802nd goal, surpassing Gordie Howe’s record.
Currently, Bernstein hosts the popular Legend of Sport podcast, mentors aspiring sports photographers, and manages NBA Photos, a global leader in licensing NBA photography that he co-founded forty years ago. In this exclusive interview, he offers insights into some of the most memorable moments in sports history.
‘Where’s Kobe? Where’s the trophy?’
After a team secures a championship win, chaos erupts as everyone rushes onto the court. Amid the frenzy, Bernstein’s task is to locate the star player and the championship trophy. During one such celebration, he found himself on a mission to track down Kobe Bryant and the coveted trophy.
