Kiefer Sutherland Arrested After Altercation with Ride-Hail Driver

Published:

Actor Kiefer Sutherland was taken into custody in the early hours of Monday following a report of an altercation with a ride-hailing driver in Los Angeles, as per authorities. The incident occurred shortly after midnight near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Ave., just south of Hollywood Hills. The Los Angeles Police Department stated that the 59-year-old Emmy-winning Canadian actor got into a ride-hail vehicle, physically attacked the driver, and issued criminal threats to the victim. Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries requiring medical attention at the time, according to law enforcement.

Law enforcement officials detained Sutherland on suspicion of making criminal threats and he was subsequently released from jail a few hours later after posting a $50,000 US bond, as indicated in jail records. His initial court appearance is slated for Feb. 2, based on jail documentation.

A request for comment sent to Sutherland’s representatives remains unanswered at the moment.

Known for his iconic role as federal agent Jack Bauer in the Fox TV series “24” and its spinoffs, Sutherland has also appeared in notable films like “The Lost Boys,” “Young Guns,” “Stand by Me,” and “A Few Good Men.” He is the offspring of Canadian actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, and the descendant of former Saskatchewan premier Tommy Douglas, renowned for introducing universal healthcare in Canada.
