Italy Clinches Billie Jean King Cup Title with Paolini’s Victory

Italy secured the Billie Jean King Cup by defeating the United States in Shenzhen, China, with Jasmine Paolini’s victory over Jessica Pegula on the fourth match point. Paolini, ranked eighth, triumphed 6-4, 6-2, while Elisabetta Cocciaretto, ranked 91st, also won in straight sets against Emma Navarro.

Paolini’s powerful backhand secured the first set, putting Italy in a favorable position. Despite a brief setback when serving for the match at 5-1, Paolini eventually sealed the win. The Italian team, led by Paolini and Sara Errani, celebrated their sixth title after a dominant performance.

The United States, a historically successful team with 18 titles, last won the competition in 2017. In contrast, Italy clinched their sixth championship in their third consecutive final appearance. The final, formerly known as the Fed Cup, showcased Italy’s strength and determination on the court.
