House fire survivor wins new cottage in heartwarming raffle

Published:

A man from western P.E.I. who experienced a house fire earlier this summer has surprisingly won a raffle for a new cottage. Daniel Drouin from Alberton acknowledges the incredible stroke of luck that came at a crucial time for him and his family.

Drouin expressed his astonishment and gratitude for winning the raffle, considering the challenging circumstances they had faced recently. Approximately 14,000 raffle tickets were sold for the draw, with the grand prize winner being able to choose between the prefabricated cottage and $150,000.

An emotional Drouin, a musician, received the life-changing news while preparing for a performance. He had bought a $50 raffle ticket for the Big Brothers, Big Sisters draw before the fire incident, initially hesitating until his girlfriend encouraged him to participate.

The heartwarming moment of Drouin being informed of his win was captured in a video posted by Big Brothers Big Sisters. Myron Yates, the executive director, reassured Drouin that it was not a prank, leading to Drouin’s disbelief turning into shock and gratitude.

The cottage prize does not include land, leaving Drouin uncertain about its placement. Currently living separately from his two children, he sees the cottage as an opportunity for their reunion after staying with friends and family members.

Facing the ordeal of his house being destroyed in the fire, Drouin is now looking forward to a fresh start as he plans to visit Charlottetown to finalize the arrangements for his new cottage, bringing his family back together in a hopeful new chapter.
