Felix Auger-Aliassime Soars to No. 13 in Global Rankings

Published:

Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime has reached the No. 13 spot in the global rankings following his impressive performance at the U.S. Open. Auger-Aliassime, who achieved a career-best ranking of No. 6 in 2022, has surged 14 places and retains his position as the top-ranked Canadian male player. The 25-year-old from Montreal made it to the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the first time since the 2021 U.S. Open by defeating top players like Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, and Alex de Minaur before succumbing to then-world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in a four-set match.

Tournament victor Carlos Alcaraz claimed the No. 1 ranking by defeating Sinner in the final showdown. Meanwhile, Denis Shapovalov from Richmond Hill, Ont., has climbed three places to No. 26 after his performance in New York, whereas Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo has dropped two spots to No. 35 following an early exit in the tournament.

In the women’s event, Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe claimed the top honors in the women’s doubles category at the U.S. Open. Their victory marks a significant achievement for the pair, who are aiming for success in other Grand Slam tournaments in the future.

Alcaraz has reclaimed the top spot in the ATP rankings, replacing Jannik Sinner after winning the U.S. Open men’s final. Additionally, Amanda Anisimova has moved up five places to a career-high No. 4 in the WTA rankings after finishing as the runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka.

Alcaraz expressed his elation at achieving his set goals for the year, stating that winning titles and reaching the No. 1 ranking felt like a dream come true. With a victory over Sinner in the final match, Alcaraz climbed from No. 2 to No. 1, ending Sinner’s 65-week reign at the top. Alcaraz first reached the No. 1 position in 2022 at the age of 19, becoming the youngest player to achieve this milestone in ATP history, and he reclaimed the top spot after winning the U.S. Open this year.

Novak Djokovic, the 24-time major champion, moved up three places to No. 4 after his semifinal loss to Alcaraz. Sabalenka retained her No. 1 ranking by advancing to the quarterfinals in New York and went on to secure her second consecutive U.S. Open title by defeating Anisimova in the final.

Anisimova’s impressive performance in reaching back-to-back major finals has propelled her to No. 4 in the rankings, showcasing a remarkable resurgence from her previous ranking outside the top 350. Other notable movements in the rankings include Naomi Osaka climbing to No. 14 after her semifinal appearance at the U.S. Open, marking a return to the top 20 for the former No. 1 player.
