Canadians Dominate Actor Awards Nominations

Published:

Canadians have received several nominations for the Actor Awards, recognizing outstanding performances in Hollywood films and television/streaming shows. The nominations were unveiled by actors Connor Storrie from “Heated Rivalry” and Janelle James from “Abbott Elementary.” Notably, Seth Rogen and Catherine O’Hara are both up for leading role awards in their respective categories for their work in Apple TV’s “The Studio,” a series created by Vancouver-native Rogen. Actor Martin Short is also nominated in the leading actor category for his role in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.”

Both “The Studio” and “Only Murders in the Building” are contenders for outstanding ensemble performance in a comedy series. The awards ceremony is set to be live-streamed on Netflix from Los Angeles on March 1.

In the film categories, the movie “One Battle After Another” stands out with seven nominations, setting a record. The Paul Thomas Anderson film competes against other films like “Frankenstein,” “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme,” and “Sinners” for outstanding cast performance in a motion picture. Each principal cast member of “One Battle After Another” has also been recognized in individual acting categories.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, Michael B. Jordan, Ethan Hawke, and Jesse Plemons are among the nominees for best actor in a leading role. Additionally, the best actress category includes nominees such as Chase Infiniti, Jessie Buckley, Rose Byrne, Kate Hudson, and Emma Stone. The supporting actress category features Teyana Taylor, Wunmi Mosaku, Ariana Grande, Amy Madigan, and Odessa A’zion. The movie also secured two supporting actor nominations for Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn, among others.

Despite its critical acclaim, the Norwegian drama “Sentimental Value” faced a notable snub in the nominations. The film’s lead female actor Renate Reinsve and supporting male actor Stellan Skarsgård were anticipated to be strong contenders for awards.

“The Studio” leads in the series categories with five nominations, maintaining its success streak after winning numerous Primetime Emmys last year. The show also received nominations for lead actors Ike Barinholtz and Seth Rogen, as well as lead actresses Kathryn Hahn and Catherine O’Hara. In the comedy series ensemble category, “The Studio” competes with other series like “Abbott Elementary,” “The Bear,” “Hacks,” and “Only Murders in the Building.”

In the drama category, “The White Lotus” received four nominations, including outstanding ensemble performance, competing against “The Diplomat,” “Landman,” “The Pitt,” and “Severance.” Additionally, “The White Lotus” secured nominations for actresses Parker Posey and Aimee Lou Wood, as well as actor Walton Goggins.
