The Canadian Hockey League has named the Kitchener Rangers and Guelph Storm as the finalists to host the 2027 Memorial Cup. A decision is anticipated in late November or early December for the national championship event that involves 52 Canadian and nine American teams from the Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League, and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.
The Kitchener Rangers have upgraded their arena, the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium, in preparation for the upcoming season. Joe Birch, the chief operating officer of the Kitchener Rangers, expressed gratitude for being selected as one of the two finalists, emphasizing the organization’s improved facilities and dedicated fan base.
Similarly, the Guelph Storm submitted a bid, aiming to coincide with the city’s 200th anniversary in 2027. Matt Newby, the vice president of business operations for the Guelph Storm, highlighted the city’s excitement at the prospect of hosting the Memorial Cup as part of the bicentennial celebrations.
Dan MacKenzie, president of the Canadian Hockey League, recognized both Kitchener and Guelph as emblematic of the history and fervor for junior hockey, praising their devoted fans and significant contributions to the sport’s legacy.
The upcoming Memorial Cup in 2026 will take place in Kelowna, B.C., with the final decision for the 2027 host to be made by an independent panel with expertise in the sports industry. The potential economic impact and community celebration associated with hosting the prestigious tournament have generated enthusiasm among fans and officials alike.
