This triumph propelled Toronto (12-6-2) to a nine-point lead over Vancouver in the Northern Super League standings. Vancouver is set to face Calgary in their upcoming match.
Toronto boasts the second-best goal difference in the NSL at 29-21, with Ottawa holding the lead at 33-20 in third place. On the other hand, Halifax (3-12-3) remains winless in their last eight games (0-7-2), with their most recent victory dating back to July 7 against Calgary.
Both teams are scheduled to play their next matches on September 13, with Toronto hosting Vancouver and Halifax welcoming Ottawa.
In another match, Vancouver Rise defeated Calgary Wild 6-0 at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, B.C. Latifah Abdu scored in the 15th and 53rd minutes, while Jessica De Filippo added a goal just before the end of the first half. Quinn, Mariah Lee, and Lisa Pechersky also contributed to the Rise’s impressive win.
The Rise (9-5-5) now sit six points behind AFC Toronto but are four points ahead of Ottawa Rapid and Montreal Roses. Calgary (6-11-2) occupies fifth place in the standings.
During the match, Vancouver dominated possession with 62% and outshot Calgary 24-11 (8-5 on target). Goalkeeper Morgan McAslan secured a clean sheet for Vancouver. The Rise earned eight corner kicks and received one of the three yellow cards issued in the game.
The Rise’s victory marked their fourth consecutive win, with Abdu making a strong debut by scoring two goals. She transferred to Vancouver from Montreal Roses FC and proved to be a key player in the match.
